Terms of Service

1. What ForTheTown is

ForTheTown is a marketplace operated by New Hudson Technologies, LLC (“we,” “us”) that connects people who need local services — rides, food delivery, cleaning, tutoring, home services, and more — with independent local providers who offer them. We provide the platform: request posting, matching, messaging, payments, and reviews.

We are not the provider of the underlying services. Providers on ForTheTown are independent businesses and individuals, not our employees or agents. When you book a ride, a delivery, or a cleaning, your agreement for that service is between you and the provider. By using ForTheTown you agree to these terms.

2. Accounts and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You agree to give us accurate information when you sign up, keep your credentials secure, and let us know if you believe your account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms or put other users at risk.

3. Provider terms

Providers use ForTheTown as independent contractors. Nothing in these terms creates an employment, agency, partnership, or joint venture relationship between a provider and us. Providers set their own schedules, decide which jobs to accept, and are responsible for their own taxes, equipment, licenses, and insurance.

• Verification. Regulated or higher-risk categories (such as rides) require additional verification before a provider can accept work, including licensing, insurance, and a background check. We use Checkr, a consumer reporting agency, to run background checks with the provider's written authorization, following the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) process — including pre-adverse and adverse action notices with a chance to dispute the report.
• Screening fee and earn-back. Providers in screened categories pay a screening fee that covers the cost of the background check at cost — we do not mark it up. The fee can be earned back: a slice of each paid job goes toward the outstanding balance until it is cleared.
• Quality. Providers agree to perform accepted work honestly, safely, and as described. Repeated cancellations, misrepresentation, or unsafe conduct can lead to removal from the platform.

4. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. When you pay for a job, we retain a flat platform fee and the remainder goes to the provider; providers keep 100% of tips. After our real costs, surplus platform fees fund the ForTheTown Community Fund, which supports local programs — allocations are published on our community partners page. Prices shown at booking are the prices you pay; any changes require your agreement.

5. Cancellations

You can cancel a request before a provider has accepted it at no charge. After acceptance, cancel as early as you can — providers plan their day around accepted jobs. If a provider has already incurred costs or travel for a job you cancel late, part of the payment may be kept to cover that. If a provider cancels on you or the work is not performed, you will not be charged for it — contact us if a charge looks wrong and we will sort it out.

6. Prohibited conduct

Do not use ForTheTown to:

• break the law, or request or offer illegal services;
• harass, threaten, discriminate against, or endanger anyone;
• misrepresent who you are, your qualifications, or the work performed;
• circumvent the platform to avoid fees on jobs arranged through it;
• scrape, probe, overload, or interfere with the service or other users' data;
• create accounts for anyone under 18 or after being removed from the platform.

7. Disclaimers

ForTheTown is provided “as is.” We work hard to verify providers and keep the platform reliable, but we do not guarantee the quality, safety, timing, or legality of services performed by independent providers, and we do not guarantee the platform will be uninterrupted or error-free. Verification and background checks reduce risk; they do not eliminate it. Use your own judgment when booking and performing work.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, New Hudson Technologies, LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for disputes, damages, or injuries arising out of services performed by independent providers. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for claims relating to the platform is limited to the greater of $100 or the amounts you paid us in platform fees in the 12 months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a formal claim, contact us — most issues can be resolved quickly and informally. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Connecticut, and both sides consent to their jurisdiction.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves — especially during the beta period. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and give notice in the app or by email. Continuing to use ForTheTown after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
