Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 5, 2026
This policy explains what information ForTheTown (operated by New Hudson Technologies, LLC) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to match requests with local providers and run the platform, we don't sell your data, and the most sensitive data — card numbers and background check reports — is handled by specialist processors, not stored on our servers.
1. What we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address, and role (consumer, provider, or restaurant), plus profile details you choose to add.
- Requests and activity. The service requests you post, jobs you accept, messages, ratings, and reviews.
- Location. The location attached to a request, used to match you with nearby providers. Providers see a rough location before accepting a job and the precise address once they need it to do the work.
- Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number never touches our servers — we keep only records like the amount, status, and a Stripe reference for each payment.
- Background check data. For providers in screened categories, background checks are run by Checkr, a consumer reporting agency, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and only with your written authorization. Checkr holds the report; we receive the outcome and status needed to verify eligibility.
- Usage data. Standard technical information (device, browser, pages viewed) and product analytics events, collected via PostHog, to understand how the product is used and improve it.
2. How we use it
- matching requests with nearby, qualified providers;
- processing payments, payouts, tips, and the screening-fee earn-back;
- verifying provider eligibility in regulated categories;
- keeping the platform safe — preventing fraud, abuse, and policy violations;
- sending service messages about your requests, jobs, and account;
- understanding usage to improve the product;
- meeting legal obligations.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where the service requires it:
- Providers. When you post a request, providers see its details and a rough location so they can decide whether to accept it. The provider who takes your job sees what they need to complete it.
- Stripe. Handles payment processing and provider payouts.
- Checkr. Runs provider background checks as a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.
- PostHog. Provides product analytics so we can see how the app is used.
- Legal. We may disclose information when required by law or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
4. Retention
We keep your information while your account is active and as long as we need it to run the platform, resolve disputes, and meet legal and tax obligations — payment records, for example, must be retained for a period set by law. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.
5. Your rights
You can access and update most of your account information directly in the app. To request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account and associated personal information, contact us — we will act on the request unless we are legally required to keep something (like payment records). For background check reports, Checkr provides its own FCRA process to obtain and dispute your report.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies that are necessary for the site to work — keeping you signed in and securing your session. We use PostHog for product analytics to see which features are used and where people get stuck. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or ad trackers.
7. Children
ForTheTown is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and accounts must be created by adults. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves — especially during the beta period. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and give notice in the app or by email.
9. Contact
ForTheTown is operated by New Hudson Technologies, LLC, Connecticut, USA. Questions about privacy, or a data access or deletion request? Contact us through your account or via forthetown.com and we will get back to you.
